About Cheshire Building Society

Established in 1870 in Macclesfield, the Cheshire was one of the first Permanent Societies which started a revolution in personal finance. The Cheshire's first merger was in 1969 when it merged with the Northwich Building Society. This was followed by a series of smaller mergers through the 1970's and 80's. The branch network now extends throughout the North West and includes 37 building society branches. However, we operate nationally following the successful launch of our Internet channel and Customer Contact Centre.

The Cheshire sees quality service as the principal cornerstone of its success. By putting our customers first, it has endeavoured to continue to provide a standard of service considered outstanding in its sector.

On 15 December 2008, the Cheshire Building Society merged with Nationwide Building Society, the world's largest building society.

Our merger with Nationwide has allowed the Cheshire to increase the financial security of our customers and their investments. We'll continue to operate out of the same branches and you'll be served by the same friendly faces.
